**MatosPT:** Hello, hello!
**RapidRaven880:** So welcome to the second episode. We have an episode full of things to talk about and we're going to jump straight into the one punch Medallion in Blitz recently added, which took me by surprise. ~~Have you seen it before?~~
**MatosPT:** ~~Uh, no, I think it's first. Uh, ~~quite interesting the way they approach the anime lore the lore of Fortnite. So basically the Medallion allows you to one punch an enemy. [00:01:00] And Fortnite doesn't allow punching, just hit them with the pickaxe.
**RapidRaven880:** Yes, yes. That is that, that, I must say, that took me by surprise. I played blitz a few days ago, not long after the medallion was released. And what happened was that I got to the end game. I think there were two other people left and this guy was going around with the pickaxe. And I thought, okay, that's weird.
And I started shooting him. It was about to go down, but he hits me once with a pickaxe and I'm gone. And I seriously thought he was a hacker. Before I understood he actually had the one man punch medallion, which as you said kills the enemy with a single pickaxe hit, which I must say I was very surprised to find out they even added that to blitz, so.
**MatosPT:** I haven't played blitz recently, so I haven't tried it out, but I, I can see how you [00:02:00] see someone the pickax and you're going like, Oh, this is a bot Right? Just pickaxing his way out, and then he comes at you, he hits you once, and instead of doing like five or 10 damage, instantly kills you.
So I can see how, without having the knowledge of the new medallion, people would think it was a hack, actually, there were several topics on the Reddit regarding that. When it came out, many people thought the same thing.
**RapidRaven880:** I think it was very unexpected and I mean on the one hand it feels way too strong. My initial reaction was that it was a stupid idea. I was very happy that they didn't bring it to Battle Royale. I think once you know that this thing exists, I'm not sure it's as strong as it looks, right?
Because to hit someone with a pickaxe, you [00:03:00] need to be really close to them.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. But depending on the movement that you have, if you have the fizz.
**RapidRaven880:** Fizz, yeah.
**MatosPT:** If you have the fizz it's very easy to get up and close. So it takes a bit of skill to use it properly.
**RapidRaven880:** So you mean fizz yourself up and then jump on an enemy and pickaxe the guy.
**MatosPT:** True.
**RapidRaven880:** Okay. Yeah. I haven't played blitz since, to be honest, so I haven't had the time to experiment with it. The last time I saw it was when I got shocked by it,
we had some updates. So we have choppers now where choppers, the hammer a AR is gone, which was my favorite AR in the season. And we got shockwave hammers. What do you think about shockwave hammers?
**MatosPT:** I've been getting the hang of it, and I quite like to use it. So if you need to run, you'll [00:04:00] use the three hits of the hammer that you have, then you have to wait for it to reload. It's not, I don't think it's overpowered. I think it's a great item. It's a great movement. And in the final circles, it can be quite good to send people to the storm.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Or if you are on top of a mountain to send them down a mountain to die of fall damage. One of the possibilities, I guess, to increase the range would be fizz plus shockwave hammer. If you fizz yourself up before a fight and then use the shockwave hammer and you fizzed up when you use it, then you should go further.
That certainly works with shockwaves or two shockwave hammers, right? Then you got six hits.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. I guess that's a solution, but then what do you take out of your inventory, right.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, I think this season, if we're talking about this season, I would say that heals are not necessary. I think if you really need to choose something, you should choose movement and you [00:05:00] should drop the heals. You should probably take bunkers, but only if it's very, very close to the end game.
I wouldn't carry bunkers since the early game and it really depends which weapons you prefer. Another thing we got recently and I forgot to mention, are the snipers, right?
**MatosPT:** Ah, the old snipers, yeah.
**RapidRaven880:** The snipers are very good. I'm taking snipers now instead of DMR. They have three shots before you need to reload. ~~What's your, what's your favorite one here?~~
~~Uh, or.~~
**MatosPT:** ~~I, I still prefer the DMR, ~~I still prefer the DMR basically because I've used the DMR so often recently that I've become, quite good with hitting the opponents with it. I've tried the sniper two, three times and it didn't go well. It's very hard for me to see the bullet drop and to calculate where I have to try to aim to hit the enemy.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, I got a similar feeling moving from DMR to sniper. You do need to get used to it and get used [00:06:00] to the projectile movement specific of the sniper with its very large drop as the distance increases. So I do prefer the sniper. And of course the wrecked revolver, it's still on top of my list. So if I could choose, two things would be the wrecked revolver and the sniper, then a movement item possibly together with a fizz and heals or an AR. I might take an OXR, but I could do with just two weapons.
**MatosPT:** Oh, really?
**RapidRaven880:** Yes.
**MatosPT:** Usually it's the DMR, it's the veiled precision SMG and then it's the wrecked revolver.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah,
**MatosPT:** Then I try to take one heal and one hammer, ~~maybe a jump pad. ~~
**RapidRaven880:** ~~Yeah. ~~The jump pads are, are very good to, get [00:07:00] out of a tight situation. Talking about that: in the last episode, you mentioned one weapon that had a scope that we couldn't remember the name of, and that was the Veiled SMG, wasn't it?
**MatosPT:** Yeah. That's it. I've been using it quite a lot. I never liked it before. I guess it was competing with other very good AR, so I never looked at it because the damage is quite small. It shoots very fast, but the damage is very small. It's like 12 or 13 per hit, so it's very good for medium range, but if the enemy goes a bit too far, it's very hard to do.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. I used to really like the veiled but then moved to the hammer AR and now with the wrecked revolver, I certainly prefer that. I will take a veiled if I have nothing else but it's not my preference nowadays. The other thing....
**MatosPT:** You use the wrecked revolver even for medium [00:08:00] distances?
**RapidRaven880:** Yes, but I would have to aim down sights. So if I aim down sights, the aim of the wrecked revolver. Gets smaller, gets more accurate, and then you can use it for medium distances. I think it's very good for that. It has many shots. It just takes quite a while to reload. So you need to be very careful about not reloading in the middle of a fight.
That's one of the big mistakes is starting a fight and just having two or three bullets in the weapon. Then you are done, taken down while, reloading.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, even if you jump around it's very hard
**RapidRaven880:** yeah.
**MatosPT:** get out of situation like that
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, that's true. So another thing that I would like to go to if we don't have much more to say with regards to these very latest update is POIs.
We haven't talked about POIs this season. We have a bunch of very interesting POIs. We tend to, I think, focus pretty much on always the same ones I have to say. For quite a few [00:09:00] seasons our favorite one was Rebel's Roost on the Northwestern Corner, which doesn't exist anymore. I guess nowadays would be resistance
**MatosPT:** let
**RapidRaven880:** base.
**MatosPT:** Let me stop you in a bit. So, for people who don't know, what are POIs? POI is a place of interest. It's usually where they put like houses or they have an environment set up for that place and it's where usually concentrate the special chests. So there are good landing places to go instead of a middle of the forest where there's nothing there to pick up.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, absolutely. And if you don't know the POIs for a season consults fortnite.gg. It has a lot of information including the POIs. Interestingly, we have been landing, or were landing last season pretty much in a POI, without a name that I learned recently is called Martial Maneuvers, which is just west of first order [00:10:00] base.
More recently, we've been going to Kappa Kappa Factory or Shoguns Solitude. They are, good POIs with quite a few things. And this season, since the drones are back, you can see where the drones are by checking the POIs with the golden font, there you'll have a lot of loot, possibly also more people landing there.
But in any case, even without drones, I really like Kappa Kappa Factory and Shogun Solitude -- more Kappa Kappa factory because of the possibility of rotation from there to other places like Outpost Enclave. What's your take on this?
**MatosPT:** I think going first on the drone issue, the drones are very good when you are on a team because they always drop shields and you know that when you drop on a drone zone everyone on the team will have full shields when they get out because in terms of [00:11:00] weapons that they drop, usually not that great, not very interesting to, to use the Kappa Kappa Factory and Shogun Solitude is usually a good option because they're not overpopulated. People tend to go directly to where there are bugs so they can rank up quite quickly and go to the vault so these two are good starting points to build a solid team and try to get some good weapons and go from there.
Yeah, we used to go to the Turtle, which I see in the map on fortnite.gg it's called the great Turtle.
**RapidRaven880:** Great turtle. Yeah.
**MatosPT:** When it was the Star Wars chapter and that was also quite good.
There's always like five chests around.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, the great turtle and then from there outpost enclave. Right?
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** nowadays there's also a capture point there. Uh, some people also call it a flag. So you can raise [00:12:00] that even though the flag in outpost enclave is inside, lower ground and it's very easy to take down people there.
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** needs to be careful.
**MatosPT:** Yep.
**RapidRaven880:** Then we have martial maneuvers in the north, which I really like to go to. And I think from there, supernova Academy, it's a very big POI nearby that also has a capture point and lots of chests and so on. So I think that's also a good drop point. I don't know if I'm missing anything else.
**MatosPT:** I usually like also to go, mostly when I am, playing solo, a place on northeast calling called Placid Patties. It's like where they grow up the rice crops
**RapidRaven880:** Northwest, right?
**MatosPT:** northwest. Yeah, sorry. And there's a truck, a slurp truck
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** there, and [00:13:00] there's six chest and it's quite a good place to go
**RapidRaven880:** so quick question. Drop it like it's hot, or drop it like it's cold, and then have time to loot. What's your take?
**MatosPT:** I guess it depends. I usually drop it like it's hot if I'm doing quests and that's usually the only time I drop it like it's hot because the probability that I'll die in the first minute is too high and then it's two, three minutes to get back to the game. And it gets tiring to spend more time in the lobby and on the island waiting for players than actually playing the game.
Other than that, I prefer to go to the outskirts of the island. Go inside from there. Go with the zone.
**RapidRaven880:** Yes, I agree. I really think that to have a good strategic game, you need to start in a place [00:14:00] without too many people, not too many teams, and from there you get basically your stuff together, your team gets together, starts to move with the zone and prepare for a good end game. 'cause I think if you want to win, if you want to get the crown you need to have a strategy.
So I think it's important to not go Rambo, I guess.
**MatosPT:** I had a game yesterday where I had good weapons. I was in the final three, but I tried to rambo it against the guy that I saw and it didn't work out, if I waited, if I had been more patience, uh, I would probably win. But I try to take out that guy so yeah, patience is almost a skill
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
Yeah, it happened the same to me. We were, [00:15:00] was there actually a game that where we were together in a squad and, very close to the end, one of the opponents in the other team was taken down. I saw that he had very good weapons and instead of waiting and being patient, I decided to use a hammer, shockwave hit to get those weapons.
But as soon as I got the weapons, I was swarmed up by his teammates. And that was it basically for me. And, obviously it made our teams work a lot harder. So that was on me.
**MatosPT:** Yep. It happens. It happens. It could have worked out, but sometimes it's worth, right?
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, that's right. It's a learning process. That's why, Fortnite is a very interesting game in this regard. That that's a lot of things that come together for you to have regularly good games.
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** so about we have boons, [00:16:00] right? Boons are back, from, we had, I think we had boons a few seasons ago.
Now we have more boons, different ones and ones that come with a rank vaults that fall from the sky when you get a certain super soldier rank. So we have ranks b, a, s and s plus.
**MatosPT:** Hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** We have some boon, some legendary boons that you can grab from capture points and so on. We had the vulture boon, the storm forecast boon extended magazine boon, and the agile aiming boon, which I must say I haven't seen in the last few days.
So I'm wondering if they were already removed.
**MatosPT:** The Agile Aiming?
**RapidRaven880:** that was removed.
**MatosPT:** I don't
**RapidRaven880:** No, I,
**MatosPT:** Were you talking about that one
**RapidRaven880:** talking about all of the ones, that are not from the Super soldier.
**MatosPT:** Uh, no. I got the Extended magazine boom today.
**RapidRaven880:** [00:17:00] Okay. ~~Okay.~~
**MatosPT:** ~~So it might be, Yeah.~~
it might be just luck.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** Drops.
**RapidRaven880:** because I remember, if I'm not mistaken, the Vulture boon, which is one of my favorite boons that. For those who don't know would show enemies who are eliminated on the map for a short amount of time. I used to get that in one of the OXR headquarters when you cleaned up the headquarter. But since the, headquarter is clean, you cannot get the vulture boon there anymore. I don't know if it disappeared completely or not.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. I think also a thing that we tend to do the same rotations, so when these boo Move we don't understand if they have been removed or if they have just moved because there are places that we never go right we never go to first order base We never go to Resistance [00:18:00] Base, Supernova Academy, we also never go.
So, there's quite a few places where we usually don't go. We tend to do the same rotations. So, there might be differences there that we haven't picked up on.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. That's right. I went a couple of times to first order base during the Star Wars season when it came up. It had a boss there, right? And it had a special weapon. I think it was a very good, mythic shotgun.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. ~~On the bottom of first order base, right? ~~
**RapidRaven880:** ~~Yes, yes.~~
But since then,
**MatosPT:** bottom of the mountain.
**RapidRaven880:** But since the Star Wars season finished, I haven't been going there anymore. Yeah. Uh, so what do you, what do you feel about the, the boons? Do you think they're a good addition to the game?
**MatosPT:** Yeah, I quite like it. The super soldier ones, I think they are too predictable in terms of, you know, exactly when and what super soldier you'll get. So I guess that takes the fun a bit out [00:19:00] of it. the other ones, I quite like it. And the fact that they are, a bit random, to drop. It's quite interesting and puts a factor of luck into the game.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. I like them as well. That brings me to, to actually boons remind me a little bit of augments. Do you remember augments a few seasons ago?
**MatosPT:** I think it was during the first few months I played Fortnite, There were augments and then poof, they were completely removed.
**RapidRaven880:** Yes. So. Those allowed you to get some special abilities, throughout the game and you could, it always gave you, I think, if I'm not mistaken, three options. And then you could choose one of them. ~~Uh, and~~
~~I don't think you need to play, I think it was sort of like a boo that would just show, um, but has been what, two years, uh, since we had augments so.~~
~~I, I, ~~I don't quite remember the details, but I do remember that back then we also had this interesting machine that allowed you to upgrade your weapon. And I remember that whenever I collected enough money, I knew where those machines were and I could just go [00:20:00] there and upgrade my, you know, rare or, epic to legendary.
I think they were very nice. I don't think we have that since
**MatosPT:** you mean the weapon upgrading? When you were talking, I thought you were talking initially about the mod benches, but Yeah.
**RapidRaven880:** I was talking about yeah, what benches is different, right. That came later. That came I think maybe a year and a half ago or so, but we had upgrade machines where you could go to the machine and just upgrade the rank of the machine. So it was a sorry of the weapon, so you had exactly the same weapon.
upgrade it. You could upgrade it from rare to, to, to Epic and Epic to Legendary and so on.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, that was great. nowadays, I think I spend most of my money on reboot cards, so.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. You just spend the whole time rebooting the team. That's the issue. I mean, yeah. That's interesting. That's also, that's a recent edition, right? Being able to buy reboot cards, is that a good [00:21:00] thing?
**MatosPT:** I think so.
**RapidRaven880:** Because it annoys me to know that I just shoot someone down and, teammates can simply disappear from view. Just reboot the person without trying to grab his card. Before there was a little bit of strategy where if you take someone down, you know that for them to reboot their teammate, they'll have to come back and get their card.
**MatosPT:** You are gonna camp right there
**RapidRaven880:** I mean, yeah, that's right. And it was an issue because if one of your teammates was taken down, you'd have to think very well what to do next a lot of the teams would camp waiting for you to come back for their teammates, but nowadays you can just go to the other side of the map and reboot them and then there's no point in staying there.
I guess so. I'm not sure. I'm a bit split on this buying of the reboot cards.
**MatosPT:** I think it's great that whether you buy one card or two cards, it's the same price. You [00:22:00] pay 500,
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** regardless of the number of cards you'd buy. that kind of caught me by surprise the first time we played trios or squad, because I thought it was 500 per card.
What? The fact that it's 500, whether it's one, two, or three, it is very good, but it also makes you be aware that you should always have at least 500. because the gold economy, and it's something that we should talk about on the future episode. You nowadays have so much to, to spend gold on. You have market, have the, when you want to reboot, what, what is it called?
You reboot with two shields and one weapon, and it's like a thousand enhanced reboot, It's like a thousand gold
**RapidRaven880:** expensive.
**MatosPT:** And then it's like 500 for buying the cart. So [00:23:00] unless people are very picky, where to spend their gold, it can go quite fast.
**RapidRaven880:** and it's 800 per legendary weapon, 600 per epic weapon. So you just get, two legendary weapons in a match and, suddenly you spent 1,600. So it's very easy to just go to zeros and, I'm guilty of that sometimes.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. But the game is quite fun nowadays, I guess it's been quite a joy to play this season, although it's not, been our best season. But I think it has been our fault,
**RapidRaven880:** Hmm.
**MatosPT:** but I think the items available, nowadays, I quite, quite good.
**RapidRaven880:** Yes. Yeah, I agree. The season has been feeling a little bit. More sweaty than usual, I would say. And I don't know exactly why. I think we need to reserve one of the episodes to discuss the algorithmic choices made by Epic, because it feels unusual, but yeah.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, even before the end vault of the snipers [00:24:00] because sweaters usually Always have a sniper somewhere they're hiding and have a sniper somewhere, and even before the snipers they, it seemed to be quite sweaty in that regard.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Absolutely. I agree with that. The other thing that I remember from this is a little bit of nostalgia here I remember from a few years ago also from when we started back in, 2020, uh, three now. Was, the existence of these machines that allowed you to track, an opponent.
I really enjoy that because you could get visibility into where one of the opponents was, and you could track him down
when we had medallions, right? We don't have medallions anymore. They were removed a couple of weeks ago, I think it was with release of 37 10.
**MatosPT:** Only. Only on, only on on rank. [00:25:00] They're still on rank as far as I know.
**RapidRaven880:** Yes, I think you're right. But we've been playing and ranked, so, we haven't had the opportunity to see the medallions, but I really like the medallions. I actually don't know exactly why they removed the medallions from unranked. It doesn't make much sense to me.
**MatosPT:** People complained, I guess. At least I, I've seen many people complain about it because if you could get all pre ions, it was very, very overwhelming.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, fair enough.
**MatosPT:** but if that's the reason, it's strange that they kept it on rank and remove it from, they were like, okay, let people have fun on unranked without having, a free medallian person. And those who want a challenge go to, to rank them. see how they fit.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, it's possible. It's possible that that was the case. Even then, some ranked games for me still feel like they were ranked. It just feels, as I [00:26:00] said,
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** very, very sweaty. But I have to say, I enjoy them because. It's, it doesn't feel like it's a bot lobby where you enter and you just take down everyone and you can kill anyone outside.
Cover. And, you know, you have a player in front of you that cannot hit you a single shot. And that,
you know, it's nice to say, well, I have 20 kill per game. But if it's, they're all bots, I mean, I don't know what's the point, right? So I enjoy that. It's tight and then it also makes the win, more exciting.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, it doesn't do wonders for our, wins percentage. It's probably on the two, 3% right now,
**RapidRaven880:** true.
**MatosPT:** It makes for a great game.
**RapidRaven880:** That's true, that's true actually. You can see your, if you go to Fortnite Tracker, you can actually see your win percentage. So that will be an interesting, thing to see on how your win percentage changed, over [00:27:00] time. Right. So if I quickly check the wind percentage, which probably is similar for, what is it here?
Then, uh, I can tell you, is this this per, okay. Uh, all chapter six, season four.
Oh, it's not that bad, right? 10.4% wins, this season.
**MatosPT:** Really regarding, all modes solo and, trios
**RapidRaven880:** been playing, I've not really been playing solos. So this is generally, a team.
**MatosPT:** only Battle Royal or also, blitz? Only
**RapidRaven880:** yes. Yeah.
**MatosPT:** yeah. 10% is better than I expected. What's, what's the percentage on previous seasons?
**RapidRaven880:** in Bleed was, is 28 point. 28 point, uh, four, uh, in previous seasons for some reasons not [00:28:00] allowing me to choose, just allows me to choose. I can tell you my lifetime percent win percentage is 10%, is 9.6%.
Yeah. And, if I check chapter six, season four, and if I see the percentage, per, team size, then I win most as a dual, 15% as dos.
Then 6.8 is three use and 10.5 squads.
**MatosPT:** That's not
**RapidRaven880:** it's not bad.
**MatosPT:** I was thinking it would be worse.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. I guess we just remember the ones where we screw up.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. True. Yeah. Sounds, uh, sounds good. It's almost 40 minutes.
**RapidRaven880:** So we have a.
We can spend a lot of time talking about for nights, but I'm sure, that we have other things do like playing some matches.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, true. [00:29:00] I have to go to Blitz to get some gold.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** I think it's the best place to get gold nowadays. Is Blitz, Very good. It's very fast. And the thing I like about Blitz, In the same level as the quick gameplay is that it's very quick to go to the island, probably 'cause it has so many bots.
But either way, you don't have to spend a minute or two waiting, looking at the, the ceiling waiting for you to get to a game
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah, I agree. We'll be talking about blitz in, coming episode. That's a good idea. So.

I think one of the things to, to start the episode is actually to maybe, uh, just quickly, uh, thinking about sort of, like, the, the most embarrassing moments we've had in, uh, in, uh, in Fortnite before we even get to sort of, like, our origin stories. Uh, I can start by saying that one of the most embarrassing moments that I keep repeating, uh, often enough is in the very early days, I remember being in a, in a fight with someone. The guy had a shotgun, and I think I had a shotgun at some point as well. But instead of scrolling up to choose my shotgun, I scrolled down and chose my med kit instead, and I ended up throwing some three or four med kits to him. And so that was, was pretty embarrassing.
**MatosPT:** [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** So what, what comes to mind for you?
**MatosPT:** Yeah, yeah. Uh, uh, that happens too. T- that happened to me as well. I, I think that happens to everyone. People usually panic and there seems to be too many buttons [laughs] in our hands, and, and you end up throwing something that you shouldn't. Yeah, that's a big one. The other is just trying to make a jump, you're pretty sure you're gonna make it, but then you don't. [laughs] And that's really the situation. We had a game today, and I landed very high and I had nothing to, to get down with and [laughs] I, I thought I-
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** ... I could jump to another platform, and I didn't. So I died, and I had to be, uh, saved by you.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** But yeah, th- those kinds of things, uh, uh, are more common than we'd like to admit, I guess.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. One really, one really, uh, thing that happened me so often in the very beginning with shockwaves, while I was learning shockwave- I mean, might still happen, but more rarely these days, is I'm trying to shock my waves- myself forward [laughs] and I throw it in the wrong place. I ended up going backwards or in the wrong direction.
**MatosPT:** [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** It's like total craziness. But yeah, it's, it's one of those things that you really need to get used to, and you need to learn, uh, how to use shockwaves and, um, how to, how to do the, the right, the right jumps.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, it's curious that you mention shockwaves because I, I never, uh, I never used shockwaves-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm
**MatosPT:** ... mainly because that happens to me all the time. I try to go forward-
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** ... [laughs] and I end up going backwards. Uh, but I think, and it's, I think it's worth to mention that you play on the PC and I play on the PlayStation 5.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** So and as far as I know, there are some items that if you try to double jump, if you click X on the PlayStation, and you have the item equipped, I think the item just is thrown automatically at your feet. And I'm not sure if the shockwaves, uh, that happens, but could be one way to, to use it, uh, correctly.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. I, I have, I have no idea. As a PC, as a PC player, I'm, I'm, I'm completely ignorant of what happens in the PlayStation these days. But I, I must say, and now going back to, uh, the next, uh, the next, uh, part that I wanted to discuss a little bit is our origin story and how we, why we started playing, uh, Fortnite. So I started playing on the, on the PlayStation as you know. This is, like, over two years ago. I got an injury and, uh, I was looking for, for a game to play [clears throat] with, uh, with my son and, uh, and I... we ended up hitting Fortnite because I think we, we had, we had played all the other available co-op games, uh, for, for the PlayStation. So we started playing together on the PlayStation split screen, and then I think a few months later, we ended up moving to, um, different... Uh, so he stayed in the console, in the PlayStation 5, and I, I moved to the... to a gaming PC and, uh, learning, uh, mouse and keyboard and so on. So that was, that was a big change for me. Uh, I don't remember the season anymore, but, uh, it was... there were dinosaurs and there was a jungle. There were dinosaurs running around. You could even jump on the dinosaurs and ride the dinosaurs. Um, yeah, it has been, uh, a while ago, and, yeah, what do you remember from back then?
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, I started... I don't, I don't remember the dinosaurs. I think I started, uh, a bit later than that. I think... but, uh, yeah, I, I do remember some jungle, and I remember on the top right there was a desert area, and there was a, a car track.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** So... An- an- and I used to, to go there quite a bit. The, the, the season I'm most fond of is the one where we had the, the car mods and the-
**RapidRaven880:** the... Oh, that was the nitro season, right?
**MatosPT:** Yeah, yeah, yeah. The, the... [laughs] I think that was one of the most fun seasons I've had-
**RapidRaven880:** Yes
**MatosPT:** ... on, on Fortnite.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, I enjoy that.
**MatosPT:** Go- going back to, to the origins, we both grew up with, with consoles on our hand and Fortnite specifically. I, I was introduced to Fortnite like five years ago with the, with the son of a friend of mine.
**RapidRaven880:** Interesting. Okay, I didn't know that.
**MatosPT:** And he showed me, and it was playing, I don't know, a normal game. And what he showed me at the time was just...He started the game, he landed, and then he just started building a tower, a huge tower. And in the middle of building a tower, there would be some guy or Efel, or... But his game was basically building a tower. And his thumbs twisted so fast, and I didn't see any objective to that. Like, how- how- how is this fun? How is he getting fun out of this? And I guess, at the time, I completely dismissed it as a- as a kid thing. And two years ago, when we started playing, it was more of a way to stay connected-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm
**MatosPT:** ... over the distance that we have. So that's the beginning of it. And even today, I guess the social part and playing as a team is the thing that interests me the most. Because if I play a solo game or two, I've done enough. I- I- I do some quests. I never, I never stay hours upon hours to try to get that crown.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** Never. I have no patience for that. But if it's in, on a team, it's much more fun.
**RapidRaven880:** Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. That's true, that's true. Actually, one of the things that it's interesting is that the first time I heard about Fortnite, it was probably also in a nei- in, uh, in a neighbor's house, um, back when I was still living in England. And- and it was because... This must have been like 2018 or so, and it was the end of a season. And I think he tried to explain me at the time that Fortnite, at the end of a season, it was going to have some event, and I was completely mind-boggled by why that would be interesting at all. So I- I didn't quite understand what was the big deal about it, and I never picked it up. I- I did hear about this building and so on, but I- I never really was interested until I started playing two, two years ago. Started playing... When I started playing, I started playing the- the- the Build Mode, but then very quickly noticed that Zero Build Mode had been released, and that interested me a lot more straightaway because I had already been interested by first person shooters and so on. So Zero Build Mode was like, okay, so I'm- I'm back sort of like in my usual game style, uh, and I don't need to sort of like build this crazy stuff.
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** And- and I always enjoyed it a lot more. I- I think it's a lot more... There's, I don't know, there's... Feels like there's more strategy, you need to be more careful when engaging in fights, and- and if you don't have the right movement, you might be, you know, really, um, in trouble. So, it- it just, it just feels different to me. I guess it's because of my background.
**MatosPT:** Yeah, true. Uh, the first time I- I picked up, uh, a third person shooter multiplayer, I would say it was on Uncharted 2-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm
**MatosPT:** ... for the PlayStation 3, if I remember correctly.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** And it was, you know, all very similar to this, although this is more of a battle royale. But that's what reminds me of, uh, and I always liked these third person shooters, and having it in a competitive way, it's- it's kind of interesting. But I- I guess the fun is- is joining with people you know and like, and having a blast and having a good time with it.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, yeah. The social, the social part is certainly, uh, extremely important. I mean, I think that- that sort of like brings us to, um, to talking a little bit about how we've been playing and how we've been feeling about the current season, right? So we're, so we're in version 3710. I think that's [clears throat] chapter 6, season 4. And we have bugs all over the place. Power Rangers. Power Rangers is something from when we were kids, so a long time ago. Uh, I- I wonder if there are still Power Rangers on TV and, uh, young, the younger generation knows about them or if they're wondering what this is all about. I was... I don't think I was ever very fond of Power Rangers, even though I watched them on TV. What do you think overall about this season, the theme, the bugs? What's your take on it?
**MatosPT:** Uh... I love it. I love it. The bugs kind of remind me of Starship Troopers. I don't know if you remember that movie. It was a- a '90s movie, I guess. And the concept was the only good bug is a dead bug.
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** [laughs] And if Fortnite had, uh, a PVE, uh, kind of mode, it would be kind of interesting to get a team against, to survive against the bugs. But Power Rangers is a very nostalgic thing. I- I- I- I remember fondly watching the- the movie when I was a kid. Nowadays, I know, uh, the movie wasn't that great. But at the time, as a kid, I- I- I- I loved that movie. And-
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... I think it's the kind of things that kids see it and they then go to older people, like us [laughs]-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm
**MatosPT:** ... and go, "I know, I know Fort- uh, Power Rangers from Fortnite."
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** And, and that's the way kids nowadays are exposed to quite a few characters that they wouldn't be exposed, uh, elsewhere.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. What, what, uh, what's your take... I mean, a few things changed recently with the release of 4710, but what's your take on, on the weapons that we have now? So, you know, we, we have the OXR rifle, we have this, uh, the rocket launcher. We have so many good weapons. We have this, uh, wrecked revolver and, uh, the new shotgun. It's... I mean, this Lead Splitter 3000 Minigun.
**MatosPT:** [laughs] Yeah.
**RapidRaven880:** What, what do you think about... or what do you think about these weapons? What's, uh, what's your choice? What's your choice of weapons? What do you take home?
**MatosPT:** Well, well, I usually... This season specifically, I haven't been... I haven't liked any AR specifically.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** So I usually pick an AR and that's the, the one I try to get, uh, every time. But this season I have tried the OXR rifle and the Hammer assault rifle, and they kind... They feel similar to me in the way that you almost have to one tap them-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm. Yep
**MatosPT:** ... to, to hit anyone. So I'm, I'm kind of jumping between the Hyper Burst Pistol if I see an epic or legendary one. And for the shotgun, I like the Rekt Revolver because it's flexible in the way that if you aim with it, you can still do quite a bit of damage further away.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** And if you don't aim it, it's a great shotgun.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** So usually those two are my main. And then for long range, I'm kind of undecided between the, the rocket launcher and the Deadeye DMR.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** The problem with the rocket launcher is that the rockets kind of spread out too much to be a good weapon, uh-
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... to throw, uh, to, to shoot it afar. So I've... I guess I've been using the Deadeye DMR, uh, more and more recently.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** And the, the Lead Splitter, it's good against cars, but other than that, you can't hit anyone with that. It's, it's very hard. That thing goes all over the place. It's very hard with that. [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. Sa- same for me. Then usually I, I get Aura Shields and a jump pad. I think jump pads are very important this season, this chapter specifically, because it's a, it's a fast way to get out of the... If, if you get into a mess and you think you're about to die, it's a good way to get out.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely.
**MatosPT:** That's usually my, my load out. Is, uh, DMR, the Hyper Burst Pistol or the... How is the other one that has a scope? What's the name of that one?
**RapidRaven880:** What, uh, the... So the... Is there any- anything else with a scope besides the DMR?
**MatosPT:** Yeah.
**RapidRaven880:** Uh, I can't, I can't remember.
**MatosPT:** One that came from previous seasons. I don't, I don't remember the name, but, uh...
**RapidRaven880:** I can't remember either. Uh-
**MatosPT:** Okay. I'll, uh, I'll do my research next time. [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah.
**MatosPT:** But, yeah it's-
**RapidRaven880:** I can't remember.
**MatosPT:** It's mostly the Rekt Revolver and the jump pad, and then usually or splash or, uh, shield/slash, uh, med kits. Depends.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah.
**MatosPT:** What do you carry usually?
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. So I, I'm pretty, pretty much set on... I'm pretty much set on the Hammer AR. The Hammer, uh, it's very similar to, to the OXR, like you said, but there... For some reason, I am better at aiming with the Hammer. Uh, I don't know why.
**MatosPT:** Do you have to one tap it also?
**RapidRaven880:** I, I always one tap. Always one tap.
**MatosPT:** Okay.
**RapidRaven880:** Uh, maybe it's just easier on the mouse to one tap, but I always do. Uh, it's very rare that I, uh, just, just keep pressing down on it. So I always one tap the hammer. Um, then the other thing I always take is the Rekt Revolver. I think it's just like super, uh, over, uh, overpowered. It, it's just so good. It, it hits fast. It has a long range and it's, it's great short range. I mean, if you have good... If you have a good aim or if by chance [laughs] you just headshot someone with the thing at the short distance, they're done, right? If you have a, if you have a, uh-
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm
**RapidRaven880:** ... a, a pink or a, or an orange one. Um, and then I used to carry, uh, Shockwave Launcher. I think that was really, really good. But now obviously with 4710, they removed that with the latest update, which is a shame. So I carry Shocks and I try to carry either a med kit or a fizz, uh, because fizz plus Shockwaves is great to run away, right? You fizz a little bit, use Shocks, and you're out of there in no time. You know, movement is, is extremely important in this season. And if you don't have movement, you're pretty much dead, uh, as soon as you find anyone that's, um, you know, has better aim than a bot. And then of course-
**MatosPT:** Have you heard about the, the bugs for movement?
**RapidRaven880:** Oh, yeah. They're the ones you... Was just introduced in 4710. These, um-
**MatosPT:** Yeah. They, they took out SCPs, uh-
**RapidRaven880:** What's their name? Yeah. These, these roly poly.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** Roly poly-
**MatosPT:** Roly polys
**RapidRaven880:** ... uh, bugs. Yeah. Yeah. And, and I like them. Uh, I mean, I've, I've taken down a lot of people in roly polys, right? Because you shoot... I think it's one shot to take down the roly poly. The, the, the person inside the, the bug comes out and they're generally like a bit disoriented and you take down the person straight away. Uh, I was luckily... That never happened to my, uh, to me yet. I haven't used them dead often because I generally carry other stuff.... but I can see how they can be problematic, uh, if you use them too often and to, to go into a fight. Um, so I, I, I wouldn't necessarily use them in any games I think.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. I, I, I, I find them hard to, to get going. So they're quite fun to use when they start jumping around and such, but they're very slow to get, to get out of a situation. They're not a way to get out of fight.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Absolutely.
**MatosPT:** They're more of a way to get out of the storm probably.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. I agree. I agree. So the, the other... The other thing I wanted to ask is, uh, what's your take on, um, these... The, the new, the new airplane, right? The... I mean, what, what do you think about this kind of transportation in, uh, Fortnite? It's not the first time that we have air transportation, and I think in the Star Wars season we also had a few. Uh, what do you think about this one?
**MatosPT:** Well, we've, we've used it, uh, quite a few times now. My main issue is specifically with the rocket launcher now available. If someone gets close to us and hits us with a rocket launcher, all the team is going down. I think it's a beginning, a very beginning kind of way to move the team all together, but I wouldn't risk it when there's like... after the first, uh, circle or when there's only like 40 people going around-
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm
**MatosPT:** ... I, I, I wouldn't risk going the whole team inside of it.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah, absolutely. I, I, I agree, but I have to say I love, uh, you know, the, the hammerhead chopper and other modes of transportation. Um, I, I absolutely love them. I think they add a lot to Fortnite. Just like to, to ride a, [laughs] a chopper around the island-
**MatosPT:** Yeah
**RapidRaven880:** ... with the team. Uh, I, I have a lot of fun and, uh, I'm always praying that nobody's shooting, uh, rockets at us anytime soon. But yeah, I can understand the danger towards the end game, so that's, uh, certainly an issue. Um, yeah. So, uh, let's just... Moving on a little bit, we didn't talk about Boons, but I'm sure we can have a, a chat about Boons next time. I wanted to move on just to also talk a little bit about why, why we're actually sort of like starting with this podcast and, uh, what's the point. I think for the, the longest time... So I, I listen to quite a few podcasts by the way, so that's one of the things I listen to, uh, most when I drive around, um, the kids to their activities and so on. And there's been more than a few times that I was looking for Fortnite podcasts and I couldn't find anything, um, really interesting. Um, I, I, I know that Ninja at some point, shout out to Ninja, uh, the... had a podcast, but I think he doesn't update it anymore, uh, for a long time. Uh, so, uh, and I thought, uh, that would be definitely interesting to have something even focused on, on Zero Build. I think, uh, F- Zero Build needs, uh, a lot more love, um, love, um, and, and so I thought it would be great to, to, to just create something and see, uh, how far we can get with this. And, uh, so the idea was, you know, depending on how things go to have like a biweekly episode, um, and, you know, take it as far as possible and just, just, you know, keep, uh, ourselves and, and, and whoever wants to listen, uh, entertained. So, you know, d- did you ever... Do you ever listen to podcasts or have you ever searched for a, for a Fortnite podcast?
**MatosPT:** No, no, no. It's very rare that I, that I listen to, uh, to podcasts. Mainly because since I, uh, I work from home, I usually have like some video playing o- on YouTube, be it music or being, uh, a videocast. Videocast is not... A stream-
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... maybe. But podcasts aren't usually my thing.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** But I, I fi- I find it very interesting that, um, I usually go to Reddit.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** And if we... And there's quite a few incredible discussions there on Reddit, and I think it's a good way for us to talk about it, and I think people might relate to what we talk. And may- some things they might agree with, some things they might disagree with, but it's a good conversation starter to have these chats and, and talk about the game and how we feel about the game, the new updates and such. So-
**RapidRaven880:** Oh, yeah. Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... I would say even, even if the crowd doesn't gather around us, this could be quite interesting to, to do for, for the future.
**RapidRaven880:** Epic, Epic will make sure it will, will stay busy, right? With all these updates, uh, coming, uh, every so often. Um, so, uh, I think maybe if, if we ever get stuck and w- we cannot do our usual match because there's a downtime, maybe we should just do a podcast. [laughs]
**MatosPT:** Yeah.
**MatosPT:** Sure.
**RapidRaven880:** While, while we wait for the... [laughs] While we wait for the update to finish. Uh, but, uh, you know, let's, let's be real. Are we too old to play Fortnite? You know, we haven't said our ages, but we're certainly like not children anymore. Are we too old to play Fortnite? Can you play Fortnite, you know, after you're 30 and 40 and so on or... What do you think? What's, what's your take here?
**MatosPT:** Well, guys our age will say that we're never too old to play Fortnite, right? But-
**RapidRaven880:** No
**MatosPT:** ... if you ask a kid between his 10 and, uh, 15 years old, he will look at a 40-year-old guy and say, "Well, that guy has probably five years to live." [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** It's different perspectives. [laughs]... yeah, I-I don't think we're too old. I think our generation of gamers sometimes is using Fortnite like you did-
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... as a way to engage with their, uh, younger sons-
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah
**MatosPT:** ... because they know the sons will like the, the cartoonish, uh, aesthetics of the game.
**RapidRaven880:** Absolutely.
**MatosPT:** And they can play with them and have some fun, and then that father-son bond, even in- at home. So, I guess, I guess we're not too old, but...
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I- it's funny 'cause I, uh, hang in, uh, the forums and in the, in the, in the channels, um, of, um, toby1shinobi, another, another, you know, great creator, and I guess we- we might have a chance to talk about this, um, in future podcasts. But, uh, toby1shinobi must- I must say is, uh, my favorite Fortnite creator. Um, and at least hi- his community, which is very welcoming, uh... I've met many people our age, uh, of an older generation that started playing with their sons, you know, uh, generally teenagers or, you know, or young teenagers and so on. And that's how they got into Fortnite. And, you know, sometimes what happens is that the- the- the sons, uh, the children or- or daughters move on from Fortnite, but they stay- they keep playing Fortnite, right? [laughs]
**MatosPT:** Yeah.
**RapidRaven880:** And, uh, and- and- and as you said, I mean, then they meet people and, uh, they, you know, even with other relatives like, uh, like ourselves, uh, we- we keep playing Fortnite and, um, you know, it's just a social thing and it- it becomes, um, really interesting because then there's a lot of strategy and a lot of, uh, communication and, um, you know, just a lot of things th- that- that you learn over time, uh, and- and improve not just, you know, on a- on a personal level, but also as a team, how to- how to deal situations as a team.
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm.
**RapidRaven880:** Which is... Which I- which I find really good. And I- I'm sure we'll have, uh, [laughs] time to talk about that in- in future episodes as well. Uh, so what do you think?
**MatosPT:** Yeah, for sure. Uh, uh, and I wanted also to mention that there's even a- a Fortnite, uh, Reddit, um, group that's Fortnite over 40, and then-
**RapidRaven880:** Oh, yeah. I didn't-
**MatosPT:** ... there-
**RapidRaven880:** ... I didn't know that. I need to join that. [laughs]
**MatosPT:** Yeah. [laughs] That's usually... People come and say, "Oh, I'm- I'm 40. I wanted to play with another adults. Where can I find people?" And usually they're re- redirected to that, uh, to that Reddit group.
**RapidRaven880:** Mm-hmm.
**MatosPT:** Yeah. I think more and more people are getting, uh, older and playing Fortnite because it's- it's a bit like a mobile game, right? You can play for 40 minutes. You d- you don't need a great investment in time. You can have fun for a short period or a longer period, and then you're done. You can come back another day or another time.
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. Um, I think that, uh, Fortnite has- has a lot to offer and, uh, it's... You know, you have a- a set time and you can just play it and you get to from start to finish and you just don't leave something hanging. And that's just so... You know, so many cool people out there that you can- that you can- that you can meet and you can join for the four gamings and it's, uh, great. I think we'll... we can maybe try one day to discuss, you know, how to- how to find these communities 'cause some people might- might not know about them. Yeah, so, you know, we- we talked a little bit about the- the difference between build and no-builds, um, and, you know, I think one of the things for me and just a- a quick mention to this is- is that a lot of people say, "Well, zero builds is superior," or, "Build mode is superior because it's the- the OG stuff." For me, zero builds is just what interests me the most because I feel there's more strategy, uh, I feel I like to be able to- to play with- with the landscape and the environments. That's the way you have to sort of like hide yourself and to protect yourself and, uh... You know, I love to be able to- to- to also throw down a bunker when needed, uh, or a wall. Uh, we had a few seasons ago, we had these huge Porta Fort and Porta Fortress-
**MatosPT:** Mm-hmm
**RapidRaven880:** ... which build these incredible things around us. But i- it's really about, you know, you're in a confrontation with other people and you- you just have to go, "Okay, we have a rock here, we have a tree there. Let's just do the best we can with what we have around us," instead of, you know, just build, build, build, build, build, build, build. It's also true. You know, it's fair. People might say, "Well, you cannot build, uh, and that's why you don't like it." Uh, so fair enough. But I don't know, if you build this-
**MatosPT:** It's a skill issue. [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. [laughs] It's- it's my skill issue. But at the same time-
**MatosPT:** [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** ... I really enjoy zero build and- and I think that, uh, it- it definitely, um... It's definitely a- a great mode and I'm very, uh, happy for Epic to- to have i- to have added it, uh, a couple years ago. Yeah. I- I think- I think the main criticism that I see of build mode is that
**MatosPT:** you- you shoot a... You shoot someone and suddenly there's a... The Taj Mahal is getting built in front of you. [laughs]
**RapidRaven880:** [laughs]
**MatosPT:** And I- I understand that, uh, and I don't- I don't think it's fun. It takes- it takes a bit of the- the military strategy or the aiming skill out of the question if someone from- from nothing can build a structure like that. Uh...
**RapidRaven880:** Yeah. Yeah. That's true. Anyway, um, no matter if people are builds... uh, on the side of build or on the side of zero builds, uh, I hope they're having fun and, um, you know, enjoying their time, uh, with friends, loved ones, uh, with people they met online. I think that's- that's the important stuff. I mean, in the end that's the- the point of, you know, um, online video games, right? Is for people to have fun and- and possibly even meet other cool people. So, I don't know. Do you have any further comments for, uh, today's episode?
**MatosPT:** No, I think- I think we're on... It's a start. I think it's a good start and we have so much to talk about. We-
**RapidRaven880:** Absolutely.
**MatosPT:** We're starting to have an idea of how long and how much we- we can talk about a single topic and there will be many episodes coming forward-
